Skillet Ziti with Ground Pork to Celebrate Pork Month!

October is National Pork Month and we’re celebrating by teaming up with South Dakota Pork to share a quick and easy ground pork recipe. Did you know that pigs are South Dakota soybeans number one customer? Pigs count for 61% of the state’s soybean meal usage!

Is there anything better than a warm plate of pasta on a cool October evening? Skillet Ziti with Ground Pork is the perfect recipe for Fall. This recipe is also easy to make. Plus, it’s only 5 ingredients!

In this recipe, we use lean ground pork, whole grain pasta, and low-fat ricotta cheese. Then we add some flavorful pasta sauce and sprinkle with parmesan! Is your mouth watering yet? You’ll want to head out to your nearest grocery store to pick up the ingredients to make this meal for dinner tonight.

  • 1 dash Soybean Oil
  • 12 ounces ground pork lean
  • 8 ounces penne pasta whole grain
  • 3 cups tomato pasta sauce spicy, OR plain tomato-basil pasta sauce
  • 2/3 cup ricotta cheese low fat
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese OR asiago cheese, freshly grated

  • 1 dash Soybean Oil
  • 12 ounces ground pork lean
  • 8 ounces penne pasta whole grain
  • 3 cups tomato pasta sauce spicy, OR plain tomato-basil pasta sauce
  • 2/3 cup ricotta cheese low fat
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese OR asiago cheese, freshly grated
Instructions
  1. Cook pasta in a large saucepan with unsalted water according to package directions. Drain well.
  2. Meanwhile, cook ground pork over medium-high heat in a large, nonstick skillet for about 3 minutes or until pork is no longer pink, breaking pork into 3/4-inch crumbles. Drain and discard any juices.
  3. Add hot pasta to ground pork in skillet. Stir in pasta sauce and ricotta cheese. Cover and cook over medium-high heat until hot, stirring occasionally.
  4. Sprinkle with grated cheese and serve.

    1. We recommend that you drain the grease so that you are able to get more flavor from the pasta sauce and ricotta cheese!
